"Well that's quite a bit of a move!"

This is what many people are currently telling me in a undertone of slight disbelief. Well apparently it is a huge move, and that being my initial intention I am quite looking forward to making this move of 16,175 kilometers.

But where to, when and why? Many of you already know, many don't, and actually I am a bit proud of myself to have kept it a complete secret for such a long time. I must admit that I sort of like the idea of simply sneaking out of here. Let me put it in a nutshell - I am moving to Australia - in particular Melbourne, but not without a prior sunny vacation in Sydney. I intend to be gone for at least a year, but I am actually quite unsure which direction this whole adventure will take in the end. I don't have much time left in Hamburg, so in case you feel like meeting up before I'll take my leave - just let me know, and maybe we can arrange for something. It is just that I am not a big fan of huge farewells, which is why I won't give you an exact date. I recently resigned from my current job, and will have my last day next week. Some people might find it a super stupid idea to quit one's job in times of economic downturn, but I think of it as a super awesome plan which I am happy to be realizing right now. I won't be giving you any details as to the why though - let's say I'm doing this, because now is just the right time to burn some bridges. Simple as that.

The saddest part about leaving? No more free coffee at work, well what a tremendous loss! The list of things I will certainly not miss is longer though, including cold winters, grey winters, long winters, rainy winters, trees without leaves in winter, winters without sun, and winter in general, ... I think you might get my point.

Anyway, I hope this blog will serve as my decent far-away portal to Europe, check it occasionally, or you might want or subscribe to it, and receive an email whenever a new post is online.

Hope you'll enjoy... So fare thee well my friends! I'll see you sometime....

  1. hey cool! :) I think it's a great idea. I had an 6 month internship in Florida as part of my studies - it changed me a lot and it was a very special time. I am still glad I did that.

What will you be doing in Melbourne? Do you already have a job there? How is the visa situation to stay in Australia for a year?

  3. Actually I have no idea what i will be doing in Melbourne - casual employment, whatever opportunity might crop up. Visa is really easy to get (insanely expensive though) - it's a working holiday visa.
